PAIPANUI BEAUTIFYING ASSOCIATION

“Unless more residents come forward and help this association, we simply cannot carry on,” said the president of the Papanui Beautifying Association (Mrs W. W. Oliver) at the annual meeting recently. If there was no association, there would be no garden competition, and the district would soon slip back to a position where it could no longer claim to be the garden suburb of Christchurch, said Mrs Oliver. Officers elected were: patron, Mr M. W. Simes; president, Mrs W. W. Oliver; vice-presidents, Messrs J. Sturrock and A. Lauder: secretarytreasurer, Mrs H. J. Quirk; committee, Mesdames A. Murray and J. Sturrock, Messrs A. Murray, H. J. Quirk, F. L. Drury; trustees, Mesdames Quirk, Murray and Sturrock; auditor, Mr W. F. Baynes.
