BLENHEIM ROAD SEWER

GOVERNMENT’S REPLY TO REQUEST If the Government extended the: southern trunk sewer along Blenheim road to the Hornby area, as suggested by the Christchurch Drainage Board, it might have an adverse effect on the board’s works through the absorption of labour from the local pool, the Minister of Health (Mr J. R. Hanan) advised the board in a letter. The board agreed to reply stating i that if the board’s operations were going to be delayed by a lack of loan money, a Government contract for the sewer extension would ensure that labour would remain in the board’s area and not be dispersed, through lack of work, to other districts. The Minister of Works <Mr W. S. Goosman) and the Minister of Housing (Mr W. Sullivan) acknowledged the board s proposal and said reports were being obtained ‘ from departmental officers.
