(New Zealand Press Association)
DUNEDIN. October 18. At least six New Zealand holders of the Victoria Cross will attend the dedication on January 29 of the Dunedin Returned Services’ Association’s Victoria Cross corner. The Dunedin City Council has invited New Zealand’s 12 surviving Victoria Cross holders to be present at the ceremony, at which one of the chief participants will be the Gov-ernor-General (Sir Willoughby Norrie). Those who have indicated that they will attend the dedication ceremony
are Messrs J. Chrichton, C. R. G. Bassett, J. G. Grant. H. J. Laurent. J. D. Hinton, and C. H. Upham (who holds the V.C. and bar). It is possible that Messrs L. W. Andrew and S. Frickleton and the Rev. Keith Elliott will also attend. The ceremony will form part of Dunedin’s Festival Week programme. Wing Commander L. H. Trent, who is serving in the Royal Air Force in Britain, has replied that he will be unable to attend, and Mr R. S. Judson, at present in hospital at Rotorua, will go to Fiji for health reasons.
