SLUICING COMPANY TO CLOSE LACK OF LABOUR MAIN REASON fNew Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, October 19. Believed to be the last sluicing claims in New Zealand, the Round Hill Gold Mining Company, Ltd., Riverton, is to be closed down. Since the company began operations in 1932, it has won 23,600 ounces of gold, and has paid out £61,000 in dividends. The main reason for closing down is that there has been insufficient labour to work the guns for three shifts a day, which is essential for successful mining. Large areas of the claim are still unworked, but the lack of labour, high costs, and low gold prices prevent further operations. Gold won has been 97.5 per cent, pure, but extremely fine. To operate its guns the company maintained four miles of water-races. Pipe lines are now being lifted.
