PARENTS’ DAY AT RANGI-RURU
MANNEQUIN PARADE BY PUPILS The rooms at Rangi-ruru School presented, a gala appearance last evening when more than 500 guests, including parents of girls and their friends, gathered to see the mannequin parade which 200 pupils presented. After the first supper, the parade was presented again for the benefit of guests who were unable to see the first performance. It was the first time the school has presented a mannequin parade at night, and the novelty of it appealed to the girls, who displayed garments they had made themselves. Evening frocks, late afternoon frocks in soft pastel tonings, blouses and skirts, pretty cdtton frocks with attractive necklines, coats and suits with a tailored look were shown by the girls with all the aplomb of mannequins. Folk dancing also entertained guests. During the afternoon when the girls were seen at. their work in the classrooms and in the grounds, parents watched their daughters receive coaching in tennis,, and saw also a physical culture class at work. Standards 1 and 2 were not left out of the programme. They contributed a play. During the evening, when pupils were not at work, parents were shown over the classrooms by their daughters, and not the least of the exhibits were the desks where they worked. Some beautiful specimens of Assisi. Jacobean and Hardanger (Norwegian) embroidery were amongst the many handcrafts displayed during the afternoon. During the day the school received a telegram of good wishes from Miss Ethel Gibson.
