NORMAN WISDOM
Sir, —Reading certain magazine accounts of Norman Wisdom led me to expect a far less skilful performance than this actor displays. Our times are anything but amusing, and in his own fashion, this entertainer may accomplish work equally valuable as that of Billy Graham or other crusaders (if material provided for his particular talent is conscientiously supplied). His subtleties would sometimes seem lost among more crudely expressed forms of comedy that make their popular appeal.—Yours, etc., LAUGHTER V. SILENCE. October 5, 1955.
