ARMY BUILDING PROGRAMME
£300,000 ALLOCATION FOR BURNHAM
SIXTY HOUSES TO BE ERECTED
Included in the £5,000,00® which the New Zealand Army will spend on works, construction, and maintenance in three years is a £300,000 allocation for living units and amenities at Burnham Military Camp. Twenty-five houses will be built at Burnham next year, and approval in principle has been given for the erection of a total of 60 in the next three years. An increased and improved water supply for the private housing area and camp at Burnham is also covered by the allocation. A cook louse which was destroyed by fire about 18 months ago will be replaced,* and improved heating installed in ordnance stores. Two additional houses will be built at the magazine depots at Addington and Fairlie.
Construction of the long-awaited Army hall at Greymouth and a caretaker’s house will be started this year. Waiouru will figure prominently in the construction programme. The provision of workshops, barrack blocks, retail shops and other amenities there will cost £600,000.
