FLATS TAKEN AS OFFICE
ST. ELMO COURTS’ GROUND FLOOR PERMIT GRANTED BY COUNCIL The ground floor of St. Elmo Courts, on the corner of Hereford and Montreal streets, is to be converted into an office for lease to the motor registration branch of the Post and Telegraph Department. A building permit for alterations to provide office accommodation on the ground floor of the seven-storeyed block of flats was approved by the City Council last evening. „ Ther ? are Six flats on the ground floor of the building, and all but one are now vacant. The one remaining tenant has been offered alternative accommodation within the building, according to a representative of the company. St. Elmo Courts is in the block which the City Council has agreed should be the site for the town hall and civic centre. It is the only building m the block which the council does not propose to acquire for the civic project.
