RAID ON ARMY BARRACKS
Sentry Injured In Scotland (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 1 a.m.) LONDON, August 29. Raiders made an unsuccessful attempt on the Redford barracks, Edinburgh, last night and a Royal Artillery sentry was injured. A siren installed to prevent armsseeking attacks by members of the Irish Republican Army, was sounded. It is understood the sentry was not seriously hurt. A Scottish Command Headquarters spokesman admitted what he called ‘an incident” and said: "The matter is at the moment under investigation. There was no loss or damage.” Soldiers at Dreghorn camp, about half a mile away, said there was a terrific noise from Redford about midnight—a siren sounded and whistles blew. Reporters who hurried to Redford after hearing the siren were detained in the guardroom while their identities were checked. The Edinburgh police today are seeking two men who assaulted the sentry. The sentry heard a noise coming from among parked vehicles and saw two men by a gun towing vehicle. He challenged them and was about to sound the alarm when one man knocked him unconscious. The men then made off.
