CONTROL OF WEATHER

“Possibility In Ten Years” (N.Z Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 10 p.m.) SAN FRANCISCO, August 11. Dr. Edward Teller, sometimes called “tiie father of the hydrogen bomb," predicted today that scientific control of the weather on a global basis might be possible within 10 years. Dr. Teller, who is professor of nuclear physics at the University of California, and consultant to the Atomic Energy Commission’s weapons laboratory, was addressing the annual convention of the United States Air Force Association. He also predicted that interplanetary travel would be possible within the generation of those who were now children. “We are closer to the point where yt might be possible to predict the weather," Dr. Teller said. “Once the laws are known, it will be possible to influence the weather.’’ But he said that global weather control would pose new international problems, and he questioned whether effective controls could be established nationally.
