COLUMN BOUGHT FOR 900GNS

BLOODSTOCK SALE AT SHOW GROUNDS Column, a five-year-old Columcilie gelding, fell to a bid of 900 guineas by his former part-owner, Mr R. R. Jordan, Fairlie, at the Grand National bloodstock sale held at the Show Grounds yesterday. Mr Jordan will race Column in partnership with Mr H. H. Elworthy, of Tlmaru,- owner-trainer of the successful steeplechaser, Paramanui. Column was formerly raced by Mr Jordan and the late Mr C. L. Or bell, and won his first race at the South Canterbur” Hunt Club’s meeting last month. Column is engaged in the Longbeach Handicap on the third day of the Grand National meeting at Riccarton today. Second highest price of the sale was 120 guineas paid by Mr R. J. Gordon, Waimate, for tne eight-year-old mare, Deraa (Defaulter-Syria), offered on account of Mrs H. D. Greenwood, Amberley. Finir (Finis—Salutation), another mare offered on account of Mrs Greenwood, was bought for 110 guineas by Mrs L. Warren, Prebbleton. A six-year-old, Finir has not been to the stud. Mrs H. R. Bullen. Christchurch, paid 90 guineas for the seven-year-old Massows—Battledress (imported) mare, Adowa, offered on account of Mr H. D. Greenwood. Adowa was served last season by Defaulter. - Limpid, a nine-year-old mare by Neptune from Plassida, served last year by Massowa, and offered on account of Miss J. Edgar-Jones, Amberley, was bought for 100 guineas bv Mr G. A. Milne, Waikaka. The sale was conducted jointly by Pyne, Gould, Guinness Ltd., and Wright, Stephenson and Company, Ltd. The auctioneer was Mr D, Clarkson.
