FIRE RESULTS IN MAN’S DEATH

PART OF HOUSE GUTTED (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 12. An elderly man who was overcome by smoke when fire swept through a house in Queen street, Petone, early yesterday morning, died in the Hutt Hospital this morning. He was Mr R. Frith, who had been asleep in a front room of the house. He was unconscious when rescued, and was taken to the Hutt Hospital suffering frfom asphyxiation, burns to his back, and shock. Three rooms in the front of his house were gutted, and the others were damaged by smoke and water. The cause of the fire is not known.
