TRIALS FOR MAIDEN PACERS

TEN HORSES QUALIFY AT ADDINGTON Dan Derby, the result of a chance mating between Consul and Titania, which are both from the Nelson Derby mare. Star Ace, was by far the most impressive of 10 horses to qualify from three heats for maiden pacers at trials held by the Canterbury Owners’ and Association at Addington yesterday. Dan Derby won the second heat very easily after pacing his mile and a half in 3min 22 l-ssec. He beat Prometheus, a gelding by Whipster from Resound, by a length, with the others down the track. Most of the maidens produced could not show their best form as they had not had enough fast work, because of the wet weather in Canterbury during the last few months. The three heats were run over one mile and a, half and the first foifir horses were required to pace the distance in 3min 30sec or faster to qualify. Results:— FIRST HEAT: Irrigation scr A. R.
