ST. JOHN AMBULANCE AT CULVERDEN
MEETING DECIDES TO FORM SUB-CENTRE At a public meeting held in Culverden it was decided to form a subcentre of the St. John Ambulance Association, Officials from the Cantefbury-West Coast centre addressed the meeting and outlined the work of the association. Major-General G. B. Parkinson said that the hospital board would be pleased if the sub-centre could run an ambulance which would cater for the district between the Conway and Waipara rivers. The chairman (Mr J. H. Burrell) reported that already two courses of lectures had been held and 29 pupils had gained their first aid certificates. Representatives of various clubs and organisations assured the meeting of their support and Mr C. S. Burrows, representing the football club, expressed his club’s appreciation for the services already rendered by the brigade. The following officers were elected; president, Mr I. G. Rhodes; vice-presi-dent, Mr H. C. Croft; secretarytreasurer, Mr W. Gibbs; committee, Mesdames H. Holden and W. Gibb, Messrs S. J. Popplewell, R. Rivers, J. Black, D. Norrie, B. Lilley, and H. M. Searle. Mr B. J. McKenna, chairman of the Canterbury-West Coast centre, referred to the initial work done by Mr J. H. Burrell and said that the association owed him a great debt of gratitude.
