MEMORIAL TO N.Z. WAR DEAD
Issue Of Cross To Next-Of-Kin NEW DESIGN APPROVED (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 11. A redesigned New Zealand Memorial Cross will be introduced as a standard form of commemoration for those killed on active service. The original cross was issued to the next-of-kin of those who lost their lives on active service in World War 11. The cross and a memorial scroll are to be sent ,to the next-of-kin of New Zealand servicemen who lost their lives in the Korean war. The Minister of Defence (Mr T. L. Macdonald) said today that the new engraved cross would be in silver, and in brooch form. “The opportunity has been taken to widen the conditions of entitlement to include the next-of-kin of civilians attached to any armed forces as war correspondents, welfare workers, entertainers, and others working in an officially recognised capacity,” he said. The memorial scroll for the Korean war fallen had recently been approved by the Queen, the Minister said.
