LAUNCH FROM SYDNEY AT LYTTELTON

After a rough trip from Nelson, the Sydney launch Dawn arrived at Lyttelton yesterday afternoon. The Dawn arrived at Nelson from Sydney early on Tuesday morning, and sailed on Wednesday morning for Lyttelton. The launch will remain at Lyttelton for a few flays, and will go on the slip to have a small leak repaired. From Lyttelton the Dawn will sail to Bluff, and may remain in New Zealand, according to the owner-captain, Mr S. Sleeman. The Dawn is built to a type developed during the war by Mr Bjarne Halvorsen, of Sydney, for general cargo work in the Pacific Islands. The vessel displaces just under 20 tons and is 50ft in length, with a beam of 14ft 6in and a draught of 6ft. The hull is single-skinned, of l|in bluegum. There is a high stem, and a pronounced sheer. The flush deck, in two steps, is surmounted with a spacious wheelhouse. A four-berth cabin is forward, and storage holds are aft. Power is derived from a 64 horse-power Gray marine diesel engine. Navigational aids include a radio-telephone and echosounding equipment of the latest fishing type.
