Blueprints Of U.S; Reactors
(Rec. 8 p.m.) GENEVA, August 9. The United States today took the Initiative in “peaceful cooperation” by presenting startled delegates at the stotrs-for-peace conference in Geneva with complete technical blueprints on industrial reactors and other specialised atomic information. Mr Lewis Strauss, chairman of the United States Atomic Energy Commission, handed over the blueprints in eight volumes to Dr. Homi Bhabha, Indian president of the conference. The blueprints,, the American delegation said, were designed to furnish a practical basic source of technical information on .nuclear energy and its application. Details of six types of reactor now being used in America are contained in the first volume. The others include data on reactor physics, nuclear design, application to power development, materials, fuels, radiation shields and laboratory equipment. President Eisenhower, in a dedicatory message with the blueprints, said the atom could not be limited by
The presentation followed yesterday’s announcement by the United States of the world’s first price list for the sale and lease of enriched uranium, ordinary uranium metal, and heavy water to other countries. the. But the American delegation did not have all the limelight. British atomic experts told their colleagues during discussion that most of Britain would be atom-powered within 20 years’ time, and that from then on every power station built in Britain would be atomic.
