TIMARU MEMBERS OF CANTERBURY TEAM AFFILIATION FEES NOT RECEIVED Clarification of the eligibility of tne South Canterbury representatives in the Canterbury team for the New Zealand harrier championships on Saturday was requested by Mr D. J. A. Walsh when the Canterbury cross-country running management committee met last evening. The treasurer (Mr G. Currie) had reported that no club affiliation or individual registration fees had yet been received from the South Canterbury suncentre for the clubs in its district. Mr Walsh said that in his capacity as referee at the championships he would have nu alternative but to disqualify the South Canterbury representatives unless then fees were paid before the race. On the motion of Mr H. O. Savage I: was decided to send urgent telegrams to the chairman and secretary of the subcentre pointing put that the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Associations rules required payment of the club affiliation ano the entrants’ registration fees for their representatives to be eligible for the championships. South Canterbury has till tomorrow to pay the fees, otherwise its runners wii! be replaced by nomination of registered athletes. N. Lynch (Marist). senior, ano B. Curie and D. Reece (Olympic), junior, have been nominated as additlona* emergencies for this purpose. The South Canterbury resident delegate made an immediate telephone call to Mr R. Lund, of the South Canterbury executive, who expressed amazement at the position, and he undertook to make an immediate investigation.
