COLLEGE STUDENT ELECTIONS
MR J. G. RUTHERFORD TO BE PRESIDENT Mr J. G. Rutherford was yesterday elected president- of the Canterbury University College Students’ Association for next year by a large majority. He is a member of the present executive with special responsibility for students’ travel and exchange and he is also president of the Law Students Society. The other candidate was Mr H. Freeman-Greene, this year’s vice-president. Miss Nan E. Baird won the election for secretary by a large from Mr J. Broomfield and Mr E. D. Kwok. She is now a member of the tearooms committee, which has a big undertaking, and is cn the executive of the Student Christian Movement Mr D. D. M. Stewart was returned unopposed as treasurer. With 650 voting, it was the best poll recorded for many years. Although 2000 are eligible, many are part-time or extra-mural students not closely concerned with the association. These three principal officers will take up duties next March, the elections being held early to permit them io become familiar with their posts.
