SALES OF WOOL LAST SEASON

PROCEEDS IN EXCESS OF £70,000,000 Sales of New Zealand wool last season totalled £70,971,472 for 1,014,340 bales, compared with £67,607,589 for 958,708 bales m the previous period. Estimated total production for the season was 1,250,629 bales, including 1,068,358 biles of greasy wool. These figures have been compiled by Daigety and Company, Ltd., for inclusion in their annual wool review. Compared with the 1953-54 season, tne average prices for the greasy wool were lower by Ils Id a bale, and 0.496 d per lb. Dalgety’s estimate that 248,3.75 bales were shipped for sale outside New Zealand, the bulk of this comprising slipe wool (1.69,239 bales). Unsold wool held in store bi’ brokers, freezing companies and farmers at June 30 totalled 49.002 ba1e5—27,147 bale o greasy and 21,496 slipe, plus 353 bales of scoured wool.
