THEFT OF £l00l ADMITTED
PUBLIC TRUST OFFICER MANAGER REMANDED (New Zealand Press Association) WHAKATANE. August 10. The theft of £lOOl 6s 3d from estates being administered by his department was admitted today in the Whakatane Magistrate’s Court by James Harland Duthie, district manager of the Public Trust Office at Whakatane since 1945. A married man, aged 45, with three children, Duthie pleaded guilty to 18 charges of theft. He appeared before Mr E. L. Walton, S.M., and was remanded in custody for a week for sentence. The offences covered a period from August, 1947, until February of this year, said Detective-Sergeant E. G. A? Rippin, who prosecuted. Of the £lOOl 6s 3d stolen from the department, £257 13s 3d was said to have been repaid.
