TARANAKI BEATS NORTH OTAGO

(New Zealand Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, August 10. Taranaki ecored its first win of the season today when it North Otago in a representative Rugby match at Stratford by 9 points (two unconverted tries .and a penalty goal) to 0. It was probably one of the poorest inter-provin-cial fixtures seen on the ground for some ;ime. North Otago, with a fairly stiff wind at its back, held its own in the first spell, but faded badly in the second. R. Brown, making his first representative appearance as a centre three-quar-ters, plaved well for Taranaki. Brown, who normally plays at first five-eighths, was given opportunities to use his pace, and he scored both of Taranaki’s tries. J. McCullough, at first five-eighths, had a most satisfactory representative debut. Taranaki’s remaining three points came from a penalty goal by T. Murfltt.
