Officer Charged With Killing Natives
RABAUL, August 9. Mr G. F. Hall, S.M., in the Rabaul District Court, yesterday committed for trial Assistant District Officer William John Allen on a charge of killing five natives. Allen was in charge of a police party sent to Alausex Village, North Bainings, New Britain, to investigate a reported rising led by a native, Tovil. Tovil was reported to have murdered another native, Prahun. Evidence was given at an inquest in the District Court that five natives were shot on June 14 while a police party was repelling an attack by villagers.
