WORLD COUNCIL OF CHURCHES
1956 Meeting To Be In Budapest (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) DAVOS (Switzerland), August 7. The Central Committee of the World Council of Churches, which groups 167 Protestant, Anglican, and Orthodox Chuches of five continents, agreed last night to hold its next annual meeting in a Communist country for the first time. The 90-member committee accepted “with appreciation” the invitation formally transmitted .by Bishop Janos Peter, of the Hungarian Reformed Church, to hold the next meeting in Budapest from July 28 to August 5 next year. . Bishop Peter told the committee: You will be welcomed not only by leaders of Hungarian Protestant Churches: but, ( >more important,- by congregations o£ those'churches.”
