IGIRI OUTSTAYS SIVITE Igiri outstayed Sivite in the Hunt Cup Steeplechase at Riccarton yesterday, ano won handily by three lengths. Sivite was in front practically all the way, but Igiri kept, within handy challenging distance over the last round, and headed the Wingatui jumper going to the last fetffe. Nod lost ground at several fences; ano nearly bumped K. Dulieu off at the brush at the’five furlongs, but still managed to beat St. Train, for third. St. Truin was the only other to finish. There were Menty of incidents from the start. The lavourite, Full Tilt, hit hard at the second fence, the first of the kennels double* and .dropped his rider. Royal Purple lost nis rider at the second or the stand double. Pyramus somersaulted at the first of the kennels double on the last round, when close to the lead, and Royal Purple lost his rider at the second of the double. Mareeba was pulled up near the mile when well beaten. • . Win for Sir Gerald The Wingatui-trained Sir Gerald gave his 24 opponents a galloping lesson in the Sumner Handicap. He ran to the front inside the first furlong, and won handsomely by two lengths from Trinder. Coin’s Edge made up ground on the innci for a close third. Sir Gerald fed Superior King. Trinder, French Echo, Pathe, De Bracey, Special Edition, Kiaree Beau, Solstice, Defallock, and Rich Wind to the half-mile. There were no .changes in the leading bunch from the half-mile to the home turn, but soon after this. Coin's Edge movedl forward on the inner to join the bunch leading the chase after Sir Gerald. It was a vain chase over the last furlong. Trinder and Coin’s Edge were three lengths clear of the fast-finishing Chateau. Cloque also made up ground for a close fifth. Then there was az gap to Special Edition and the faster-finishing Fleur. ; The top weight, Solstice/was next, followed by French Echo, Superior King, and the second favourite, Defallock. Tropical Sun whipped round at the start and took no real part In the race. Western Desert. Gallant Peter, and Pathe were slow beginners, but Pathe quickly recovered his position on the inner. . Top-weight*! Success Pad carried top weight of 10-11 to a narrow win from Spike Jones in the Spreydon Hurdles. It was Pad’s second success in as many starts on hia Riccarton campaign. and the fifth success in a notable campaign by Mr I. Robinson’s team. t »‘S’* ,he position behind Bright Race early in the race, but jumped up to Bright Race and Some Bounder in the lead going along the back. When Bright. Race dropped back after making a bad leap at the five furlongs, Pad and Some Bounder carried on together, and the North Island horse went flight by tW ° lengths going to the IMt Spike Jones, which had been trailing for a good way, moved through under a hard ride to challenge on landing. Parf appeared to be holding him comfortably going to the furlong, but V. H. Simpson had to get to work on the top weight closer to the post to win by a Jong neck. The others were beaten off. Arigead did best of *them, cutting Some Bounder out of third place when the post was near. Bright Race was fifth In a gap clear of Bahrein and Escalado. Diablo, and Grey Valley. Poilu fell at the mile and brought down the well-backed Northcliffe. Clarion’s Decisive Win The Orari-trained hacks, Clarion and Whipsnade. were the first two into the straight in the Woolston Handicap, and they kept beyond challenging range of the others. Clarion was the stronger finisher, and won neatly by two lengths. Whipsnade beat Copperfield by a length and a half for second. Whipsnade was soon leading from Airscol, Royal Lovef, Gold Trend, Clarion, Peter Silk, and Select. Going to the half-mile Clarion moved forward close behind Whipsnade, and Meteoroloigst also moved fast to join Airscol, Royal Lover, and Select close behind the leaders. Clarion mastered Whipsnade just inside the furlong, and raced strongly to the post for a decisive win. Copperfield gave the leaders a good start form the home turn, and did well to get up for third, a length clear of Argive. Lord Valna came strongly into the picture late in the race for fifth, just m front of Select. Sir Galahad was next in a gap. followed by Trajan, Native Dancer. Wayren, Tarantella, Airscol, and Peter Silk Treasure House and Channel Flight were the slowest away, and Waaco Bill also gave ground.

PYRAMUS DESTROYED , AFTER FALL Pyramus suffered severe head injuries when he fell in the Hunt Cup Steeplechase at Riccarton yesterday, and he was destroyed. He was an eight-year-dld gelding by Tweed II from Lucera, owned by Dr. W. G. Todd, and trained at Ashburton by E. W. Gray..
