SOUTH AFRICAN VETERANS’ REUNION
Thirteen members of the 3rd South African Rough Riders Contingent, the first troops to leave Canterbury for the Boer War, met during the weekend to celebrate the fifty-fifth anniversary of the contingent’s departure from Lyttelton. There are 18 surviving members of the contingent living in Canterbury, and their average age is more than 75.
Those at the reunion were:—Messrs A. Syme, F. Bird, E. Eggleston, R. Gill, H. J. C. Harper, A. Hutton. A. Harper, A. H. Joseph, W. Kidd. W. T. Lowe, R. Macdonald, W. E. Tomlinson, and C. Y. Ward.
