TYRE FACTORY DISPUTE
FURTHER TALKS BY PARTIES . Executive members of the Canterbury Rubber Workers* Union met the management of the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company again yesterday afternoon to discuss the dispute which Jiffy *3O faetory doming idle on The management suggested that both parties should agree to submit the whole of the dispute concerning the dismissal of two job delegates to a tribunal to be appointed, with an independent chairman, provided that both sides accepted the tribunal’s decision. A spokesman for the management said the union representatives had repued that the suggestion would bo considered bya meeting of Firestone workers. The union and the management agreed to hold another meeting this afternoon. Firestone factory workers met yesterday morning and reaffirmed their decision not to resume work until the two job delegates whose dismissal caused the stoppage have been reinstated. • A collection was taken, mainly to assist new immigrants and their families, who would be seriously affected Many of the men affected by the stoppage of work have been granted permission by the union to accept temporary employment while the dispute continues.
