OBITUARY
MR W. E. EVANS AUCKLAND, August 3. AUCKLAND, August 2. Mr William Ellis Evans, for the last two years manager of the Auckland branch of the Government Life Insurance Office, died at his home recently. aged 57. Born at Heathcote' Valley, Christchurch, Mr Evans was educated at Christchurch West High School and was appointed a cadet in the head office of the Government Life Insurance, Wellington. At 18 he enlisted in the Army during the First World War and was wounded on the Western Front. After the war he rejoined the Govenment Life Insurance Office in Wellington and from there he was made clerk at the Hamilton office, returning to head office before his appointment as district manager at Gisborne. He was district manager at Napier and Hamilton before taking charge in Auckland—the senior district office. Mr Evans is survived by his wife and a son. MR C. DUFTY (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, August 3. Mr Craddock Dufty, a New Zealand Rugby League full-back who is said to have appeared for the Dominion in more international games than any other player in the history of the code, died in the Auckland Public Hospital on Monday. He was 56. He played first-class football in Auckland from 1919 to 1930. Mr Dufty toured Australia with the New. Zealand League team in 1921, 1922, and 1925, and England in 1926-27. He was renowned for his accurate goal kicking. He is survived by two daughters and a son.
