RUSSIAN SHELLS UNLOADED
Oarsmen Re-enter For Henley (Rec. 10 p.m.) HENLEY, June 30. Russia's oarsmen who yesterday withdrew from the Henley regatta because the strike was holding up their shells, were tonight readmitted. Their racing craft arrived at Henley after a change of heart by the dock strikers who had at first refused to unload them from a Russian vessel in the Port of London. The Russians will row today in the events for which they had entered. Police motor-cycle escorts led a lorry carrying the four Russian shells through 10 sets of red traffic lights on their way from the Surrey Docks to Henley, the “News Chronicle” said. Motorists who obeyed the lights stopped and asked themselves: “Why the fuss? Why the hurry?” Some people cheered derisively as the police lorry “went through ’ the lights.
