Coombe) could have bettered his time of Imin 52 2-ssec for a mile and 55 4-ssec for the last half. Macduff (N. Eastwood) led Gold Scheme (L. J. Ellis) by three lengths, starting at the mile, but the latter drew up to win the trial by a neck in Imin 50 2-ssec. Gold Scheme, now showing the benefit of his recent races, recorded 53 2-ssec for the last half-mile. Dutch Flag (C. T. Wilson) was three lengths clear of William Hvde (A. J. Stokes), finishing six furlongs in Imin 20 2-5 sec. the last four in 52 3-ssec. Margundi (D. F. Coombe) started with them, but dropped well back in the straight. The Timaru Cup favourite Relinquish (C. McDonald) was alongside his stablemate. Dahlia iF. H. Skelton) and we!! 1 clear of Rio Negro <G. G. Hampton), atter pinning seven furlongs, the last six in Imin 19 4-ssec. and the concluding four in a 3 l-ssec. Rio Negro went out to a good lead early\ but the others caught her near the home turn.
