Dead Man’s Hoard Of 2/- Pieces
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) MELBOURNE, June 29. The police yesterday found more than £4OOO worth of 2s pieces in a slum cottage in Melbourne; The hoard belonged to a man who died last week. He was Clarence Bruce Boote, aged 75, a watchman. Relatives had told the police they believed that Boote hoarded money, so the police made a search. They found the 2s pieces in a large sea chest and two four-gallon tin drums. They also found other silver coins and notes covered with dust. The sea chest was so heavy with its contents that two men could not lift it. The police said that in the last three years thieves had robbed Boote of £lOOO.
