WORLD TEACHERS’ CONFERENCE
N.Z. DELEGATE LEAVES FOR ISTANBUL (New Zealand. Press Association) WELLINGTON. June 29. The secretary of the New Zealand Educational Institute (Mr G. A. Ashbridge) left Wellington this morning on an overseas journey which will cover three important missions, ending with the annual assembly of the World Confederation of Organisations of the Teaching Profession at Istanbul. Mr Ashbridge will give the opening address at the annual assembly and, as a member of the executive committee, will attend executive meetings before and after the assembly. All nations participating are invited to send in contributions on the theme of “the status of the teacher,” and Mr Ashbridge's address- will be a summary of these, sent earlier to the New Zealand headquarters. The conference at Istanbul will last from July 27 to August 5.
Leaving Auckland by air tonight. Mr Ashbridge will travel via America and will attend the ninety-eighth annual conference of the National Education Association of America at Chicago. He has been invited to be a platform guest at the conference, which is to be attended by about 5000 teachers. He will then go to Britain to investigate problems of teaching administration, in conjunction with the National Union of Teachers and the Educational Institute of Scotland. Mr Ashbridge will leave Istanbul on August 6 for Australia and New Zealand, completing a full air journey.
