EMPIRE SOCIETY
MEETING OF WOMEN MEMBERS
The annual meeting of the women of the Christchurch branch of the Royal Empire Society was held at Elizabeth House yesterday, when Mrs R. H. Livingstone (president) presented her annual report and announced that she would not seek re-election to office.
It was decided to hold a garden party during the last week in November and to develop and expand the welfare work to be undertaken. Mrs J. H. Powell was elected chairman and Miss Edith Tod honorary secretary. Mrs S. Gordon was nominated by the women’s committee to be women’s vice-president of the Royal Empire Society in Christchurch and Mesdames Powell, Livingstone, and J. D. Arthur were elected to represent the committee on the council of the society. Members of the committee were elected as follows:—Mesdames A. F. Excell, J. R. Greenfield, S. Goulden, L. A. Voice, N. J. Forward, L. C. Spooner, Hugh Fraer, H. E. Goggin. Wilfrid Peers, J. D. Arthur, Miss A. J. Hall. Mesdames G. Finney, J. McLaughlin. T. Raffell, J. Denford, R. H. Livingstone, R. J. G. Collins, V. C. Mathews, and R. H. Drayton.
