EARTHQUAKE FUND
Sir,—l thought the earthquake fund was for compensating occupiers of buildings against loss by earthquakes, but it seems not. The fund has been going since World War 11, and a good sum must have accumulated, as every insurer m New Zealand pays in. It appears the loser has to pay the first £2O. In my opinion it should be covered by the fund completely, and when the repairs are completed the bill should be sent along to the Government to square up. Residents in Cheviot are very dissatisfied with the fund. I. for one. suffered no damage kst time, but plenty of damage this fame, and £2O is a big hurdle when you haven’t got it. —Yours, etc., NO FIRE. Cheviot, June 20, 1955.
