Men Trapped by Avalanche.— Two of eight workmen trapped in a tunnel by an avalanche on the Savoy Alps, near Bourg St. Maurice last night, were dead when rescue workers reached the men early today. The other six, some of whom were injured, were rescued. The avalanche plugged the mouth of a tunnel which the men were boring to divert water for a hydro-electric project. River water dammed by the avalanche flowed into the death trap before rescuers dug their way in.—Bourg St. Maurice (South-east France), June 11.
