N.Z. MISSION IN SINGAPORE

STAFF OF TWO OFFICERS (From Our Own Reporter) WELLINGTON. June 12. Mr Foss Shanahan, who was recently appointed Commissioner for New Zealand in South-east Asia, expects to leave for Singapore towards the end of this month or early next month. His staff in Singapore will consist of a political officer and an administrative officer. The office will handle passport and other business which until now has been undertaken on New Zealand’s behalf by the British authorities in Singapore. Much of Mr Shanahan’s time will be taken up in travel throughout the area in which he will represent New Zealand—Laos. Cambodia. Vietnam, the Philippines, Siam, Borneo, and Malaya. From all these countries he will send back reports to the Government. In Bangkok, the commissioner will be represented by another officer who will live there permanently, and whose task will be to keep in close contact with all other officers of S.E.A.T.O. Powers. Mr appointment will cause three vac ncies in the External Affairs Department and the Prime Minister’s Department. He held the posts of Deputy Secretary of External Affairs. Secretary of the Cabinet, and Secretary of the Defence Council.
