Earthquakes in Otago Several earth tremors were felt in Otago on Saturday. The main one occurred in Dunedin at 3.20 p.m. Windows rattled for between five and 10 seconds in parts of Dunedin. Tremors were felt at Tapanui at 3.21 p.m.; at Queenstown at 12.20 p.m.. 3.25 p.m.. and 3.55 p.m.; at Roxburgh and Milton at 3.20 p.m.; and at Alexandra at 3 a.m. and 3 p.m.—(P.A.). Farmer’s Ordeal j Trapped by an arm and a leg under his capsized tractor in cold, sleety ■ weather, Mr Lindsay Gordon Kirker, i a farmer, of Motutangi, Northland. ! wrenched himself free and crawled ' painfully and slowly over muddy ground to the nearby Main Nortn road. His left leg was dislocated at the hip and his right arm was useless and it took him nearly three hours to reach the road. Mr Kirker was seen by a motorist and taken to the Kaitaia Hospital. He had been ploughing near the site of an old gumdiggers’ camp when the tractor wheels dipped into a hole. When he reached the road he saw cars pass and believed that one motorist saw him. “He might have decided I was someone a bit silly who was sitting there to watch the traffic,” said Mr Kirker. ’ Weather Improves Slowly The weather improved slowly during the week-end and it was not until yesterday that there was fine and mainly sunny weather in Christchurch. Frequent light showers on Saturday were sufficient to cause the postponement of many sports. The weather during the second half of last week, which included snow, hail, sleet j and some sunshine added 85 points to j the year’s rainfall at the weather office ;at Harewood. New Gisborne Museum The new GisbornQ Museum and Art Gallery, housed in the former home of Mr W. D. Lysnar, for many years member of Parliament for Gisborne, was officially opened by the Minister of Housing (Mr W. Sullivan) on Saturday. The Minister and other speakers paid tribute to the public spirit of the Lysnar family in the establishment of the museum and art gallery.—(P.A.) New Scottish Terminal At Renfrew, the airport of Glasgow, the British Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation has completed the first permanent air terminal building to be built since the war. The new building replaces passenger facilities and offices housed inside a World War I hangar. Concrete and glass have been used to produce a building with a high and spacious concourse of cantilever construction which looks as well by night as by day. Last year Renfrew handled 258,455 passengers. Arrangements for Games Arrangements for the Olympic Games in Melbourne were doing well and were very much more advanced than published criticism had indicated, said a letter from the Australian Hockey Association read at a meeting of the New Zealand Hockey Association. It is expected that 16 nations, including New Zealand, will compete in the hockey section of the Games. New Chalet on Ruapehu

A new chalet on Mount Ruapehu was opened in near-blizzard conditions on Saturday afternoon by members of the Summit Ski Club. It was intended to hold part of the function outside the chalet, but it was blowing and snowl«S so hard that this plan was abandoned. Built by the club members. the chalet is 20 feet square, and comprises a porchway and a large room with cooking conveniences and bunks round the walls for 30 persons, lhere are large windows facing Ngauruhoe. The building is only a short distance from the end of the bus route.—(P.A.)
