DOMINION’S WOOL INCOME

£90,000,000 IN LAST SEASON INCREASED PRODUCTION (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON. June 9. Wool contributed £90,000,000 to the national income in the season just ended, compared with £88,900,000 in 1953-54. There was a slight fall in average prices last season compared with 1953-54, but this was more than offset by a rise in production. The figures for the last season were released today by the Government Statistician (Mr G. E. Wood) after he had given the average greasy wool prices for 1954-55, which are required to enable the sheading rates to he fixed for next season. Total wool production last season, converted to a greasy basis, was 434,000,0001 b, compared with 424,500,0001 b in 1953-54. The average price for greasy wool was 49.7 d per lb last season, compared with 50.25 d in 1953-54. Greasy wool sold at auction in New Zealand last season brought £70,000,000, compared with £66,500,000 in 1953-54.
