NEW SUNDAY SCHOOLS AND PARISH HALLS When a 12ft extension to the west end of St Augustine's Church, Cashmere, is completed, seating will be available for 40 more worshippers. At the present time the church seats about 130. Because the parish hoped to build the first part of a new and larger church in permanent materials in about 15 years, it was considered unwise to extend the present rough-cast building more than 12ft which would cost about £l2OO. said the vicar (the Rev. O. R. Bambury). A window will be placed in the west wall of the extension as a memorial to men and women of the district who gave their lives in the Second World War. The window will depict Jesus Christ on the Cross with groups of servicemen and women at His feet The extension would be started soon and should be ready for dedication in about six weeks, Mr Bambury said. A new Sunday school and parish hall for the church is almost completed. built in brick, with a tiled roof. it a cost of £6430. With a main hall of 50ft by 30ft, a guild room of about 14ft by 20ft a modem kitchen, cloak rooms, storage room, and basement the new building will be used for Sunday school classes and larger parish meetings. The old building, which is no longer big enough for this work wall be used for smaller parish meetings and for the Sunday school’s kindergarten. The hall will be dedicated with the church extension and the memorial window. A contract to build a Sundav school and parish hall for St. Mary’s Church, Addington, has been let and the new building, which will cost about £BOOO may be ready for use by Christmas. The old Sunday school and hall, now more than 80 years old, would be demolished after the new one was ready, said the vicar (the Rev. H. I. Hopkins) yesterday. To be constructed in brick, the new building will have a main hall 60ft by 30ft a guild room 20ft by 30ft, cloakrooms, and a kitchen.
