WOMEN’S HOCKEY
Adapting themselves to the prevailing conditions, Aranui beat Carlton by 2-1. Both teams played better hockey, with the Aranui forwards putting a lot of dash into their play. G. Hall for Aranui was very sound in the backs. Carlton still played the short passing game, which on the west ground did not give the usual results. In the Christchurch West v. Teachers’ College match, the play appeared to be of a better standard, and Christchurch West won 3-1. Sound defence was most noticeable with good forward rushes, which gave Christchurch West the three goals, D. Abernethy and D. O'Callahan combining well for Christchurch West. Teachers’ College was perhaps a little unlucky as the side played very well but could not manage to get the finish in the circle. University completely outshone Rawhiti in all departments, and provided excellent hockey to win 6-1. Fowards, halves, and backs all combined well. Rawhiti still lacks thrust in the forward line. The defence is sound. M. Rouse played very well in goal. Digbys and Harewood drew. 3-all, in a good game, with both sides playing hard hockey. Again B. Makinson m goal for Digbys played a trand game, and repeatedly saved the side. Harewood, still improving, was slow to get going, but once the forwards get the ball it is hard for the opposition to stbp a score.
