THE VERY REV. W. H. HOWES

(New Zealand Press Association) INVERCARGILL, June 10. The Very Rev. W. H. Howes, Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand in 1937-38, senior minister of the synod of Otago and Southland, and for nine years minister of the Presbyterian Church of Otautau, died at his home at Invercargill this week. Mr • Howes served the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand for nearly 60 years. In length of service he was second only to the Very Rev. G. Miller, of Christchurch. One of his greatest works was the records and statistics he compiled of the activities of the church in New Zealand, among them a register of ministers of the Presbyterian Church in New Zealand.

During his long ministry he was clerk of four presbyteries—Taranaki, Christchurch, Wairarapa, and Southland.
