GOODWILL VISITS BY N.Z. WARSHIPS
CALLS AT MANILA AND BANGKOK (New Zealand Press Association i WELLINGTON, June 10. The Minister of External Affairs and Defence (Mr T.. L. Macdonald) announced today that New Zealand naval units would pay goodwill visits to Bangkok and Manila after the combined A.N.Z.A.M. maritime exercises in which they are at present engaged H.M.N.Z.S. Black Prince and the Pukaki will call at Manila in company with the Australian destroyer Anzac and the frigate Quadrant. The frigate Kaniere will join three Australian destroyers, Tobruk, Arunta, and Warramunga, in visiting Bangkok. Both visits will take place from June 21 to June 24.
“This will be the first time that ships of the Royal New Zealand Navy have paid goodwill visits Of this nature to either of these two countries,” said Mr Macdonald. “These visits should help to strengthen the increasingly close ties which we in New Zealand enjoy with the countries of the area, and indicate our interest in effective arrangements for joint defence.”
