PUBLIC GUIDE TO CHRISTCHURCH
MAP TO BE UNVEILED TODAY A “city guide” which will immediately locate on a big map ot Christchurch places of interest ana business will be unveiled by w® Mayor (Mr R. M. Macfarlane. M.PJ this morning. It will be the first of 10 to be placed in busy thoroughfares in Christchurch. Enclosed in stainless steel cabinets, each map, almost five feet square, will have a sliding rule on whicn the cross index can be quickly reaa for Government and public buildin**, theatres, hotels, transport services, scenic attractions, and trading establishments. . The City Council has approved tne erection of these guides on both bus shelters in Cathedral square, near tne Armagh-Colombo street corner, near the Bridge of Remembrance corn ® r ; near Ballantyne’s corner, near w® Farmers’ corner, and near the Majestic corner. ~ « Auckland has 12 of the guides ana will eventually have 20: Wellington has four and plans 12: and Dunedin will have eight. Nelson, Timaru, ana Blenheim also plan such installations. Similar guides were first used m Oslo to assist visitors to the Winter Games.
