GREAT NORTHERN STEEPLES

Lucky Win For I Bargain Horse J [HIT PARADE FALLS > AT LAST FENCE [ "The press” Special Service s AUCKLAND, June 6. In a most dramatic race the Mata- ‘ ™ ata , gelding. Every Time, won the b Dominions biggest stake for jumpers t the Great Northern Steeplechase, ai . Ellerslie today.. Hit Parade looked £ t certain winner until he crashed i through the last fence, a brush, aboul a furlong and a half from the finish Every pme was then left with a bij , lead, which he kept until the finish Hit Parade deserved to win. With a brilliant display of clever jumping he had the .slow stayers struggling when they began the last mite. Fox : ipost of the race he was 100yds in the lead. His one mistake was at the last fence, and there seemed no doubt that it cost him the race. Pictavja Boy was the favourite, and was second for most of the way. He jumped smoothly and well, but’lacked the stamina to improve much in the last ftslfP 1 At the finish he was 40 length* behind Every Time, and 10 lengths ahead Maforo Bay. Ivanhoe came next, and the other* were down the straight; They included the . nine-year-old Dunwold, which was attempting a hat trick in, the race. Dunwoid’s grandstand finish, which won the race in 1954 and 1963, was sadly lacking, and he was lucky to keep on hl> feet over the first seven of eight fences. Evety Time is a .ix-year-old by Contact from Never Fail 4 by Baffles. He is another bargain horse. He was bought by his owners, Messrs A. W. and G. F. Temm, for £25 about 12 month* ago, from the breeder, Mr E. Storey, who raced him ?? a three-year-old in partnersnip with Mr _W* Sanders. Every Time came to the 4 s a and little-tried m P® r - oh ' the Greenlane Steeplechase, about two mfies and a half, over the country on Saturday, with 9-01, and in the Great Northern Steeplechase hecar- ®"°; I J® ? a Prepared by the young Matamata trainer, L.
