INDEPENDENCE CONFIRMED
(Rec. 11 p.m.) TOKYO, June 6. The Japanese Foreign Minister, Mr Mamoru Shigemitsu, today ruled out the possibility of Japan’s accepting an Austrian-type peace treaty enforcing neutrality in the cold war in the current peace talks with Russia in London. • Speaking in the Lower House budget’ committee, he reiterated the statement he made on Saturday that Japan’s international position was entirely different from Austria’s. He said today that Austria had gained independence by accepting Russia’s demand for neutrality. Japan was entering negotiations with Russia as an already independent country, he said.
