AIR SERVICE TO WELLINGTON

“NO HERONS AVAILABLE FOR ROUTE” All Heron aircraft in service with the National Airways Corporation were already fully occupied with the Wellington-Blenheim-Nelson services, said an officer of the corporation in Wellington yesterday in replying to the request of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce for Herons to be used on a - Christchurch-Wellington flight. The Cook Strait service needed all the Herons owned by N.A.C., he said, and in any case they were intended \primarily for that route. The chamber’s request was made after Mr W. G. V. Fernie claimed af Thursday’s meeting of the council d the chamber that a Harewood-Rongo tai service by Herons would cut bp half the Christchurch-Wellington travelling time. He was commenting ch the recent report that a special conmittee of the corporation is to fly io Australia to study the operation i>f Trans-Australia Airlines Vickes Viscount airliners. . The officer’s statement was referied last evening to Mr Fernie, who had no comment to make.
