CATCHMENT BOARD OFFICERS
SALARY SCALE APPROVED A salary scale for salaried officers of the North Canterbury Catchment Board was adopted by the board yesterday. The scale, which is subject to review under changed economic conditions, provides for annual increments for staff members, subject to a satisfactory report on their work. The board discussed the salary scale in open meeting, much of the discussion being on the maximum salary for the chief soil conservation officer. The chairman (Mr R. M. D. Johnson) said that if the board’s future activities showed a trend towards conservation work rather than engineering work, the maximum should be reviewed in the light of the officer’s increased responsibilities.
The board went into committee to discuss the salaries to bfe paid for the year beginning April 1, 1955The salary scale for the principal officers is as follows, the first figure in each case being the firsi-yeap’ salary and the second the maximum listed: — Chief engineer, £l6OO to £2050 (fourth year); deputy tmgineey, £l2OO to £l6OO (sixth year); design engineer, £llOO to £l5OO (sixth yea*); area engineers (two), £lO5O to £l4OO (sixth year); assistant engineer, £BOO to £llOO (sixth year); jbhlef soil conservation officer, £llsoJto £1475 (sixth year); soil conservation officers (two), £750 to £llop (eighth year): secretary-treasurer, £l2OO to £l6OO (sixth year); assistant _ j secretarytreasurer, £B5O to £l2OO (eighth year). '
