NEW AIR SPEED RECORD SET

PARIS, June 1. Jacqueline Auriol, yesterday set up a new unofficial world air speed record for women of 1140 kilometres (708.362 miles) an hour, it was announced today. Her time beat the previous mark lof 1085 kilometres (674.187 miles an hour) held by the American woman pilot, Jacqueline Cochran. Mrs Auriol, who was known as the world’s fastest woman flyer until Miss Cochran’s' new record, made her bid yesterday in a Mystere fighter equipped with a Rolls-Royce Avon turbo-reactor. She flew a 15-kilometre (about nine miles) course in both directions over the Bretigny air test centre outside Paris. A new official world record cannot be claimed as the instruments on board the aircraft did not register all the details required' under international regulations. Mrs Auriol intends to make another attempt soon • with complete equipment. Visa For Einstein’s Executor WASHINGTON, June 1. Judge Henry Schweinhaut today signed an order directing the United States State Department to issue a passport forthwith to Dr. Otto Nathan, executor of rthe estate of Dr. Albert Einstein. The judge sharply rebuked the department for what he called “evasion, dilly-dallying and delaying tactics’’ in the passport case. Dr. Nathan, a professor at New York University and an old friend of Dr. Einstein, has been trying to get a passport fbr two and a half years. He contends the State Department has never informed him why it will not allow him to travel abroad.
