PRICE RINGS IN EIRE

Banning By Law LONDON, June 2. Price rings will be banned by law in Eire, and price-cutting traders will be protected, the “Daily Express’* reported today. Eire’s Commerce Minister, Mr William Norton, said a start would be made with the radio industry. His announcement followed a report by :he Government’s Fair Trade Commission which held a public inquiry into the radio trade 18 months ago, the “Daily Express’’ said. The commission, set up to curb restrictive practices, was now preparing similar reports on motor, building and chemistry trades, the newspaper said. The grocery trade was also being investigated. The Government was preparing bill to prevent: Manufacturers or distributors fixing retail prices or withholding radios from price-cutting retailers; retailers organ-; ising a boycott against manufacturers supplying price-cutters, or preparing 1 “approved lists’’ of retailers to stop others entering trade; agreements between manufacturers or retailers designed to restrict entry to the trade. But manufacturers would be able to stop supplies to retailers overcharging the public, the “Daily Express’’ said. The penalties for breaking new laws would be fines up to £5OO and a maximum of 10 years’ imprisonment.

Bus Crashes, Killing 19.—A coach filled with members of a women’s church organisation on a country outing skidded and crashed into a tree near Limburg today, killing nineteen passengers. They were all singing happily as the bus raced through the village of Hoechstembach at 55 miles an hour, but the singing turned to shrieks of fear as it skidded off the road.
