Presbyterians Seek H-Bomb Ban
LOS ANGELES, May 22. American Presbyterians yesterday urged a world ban on atomic and hydrogen bombs.
The General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in the United States approved an appeal sent previously from the World Council of Churches to presbyteries and churches for study. The appeal states in part: “We believe that there are two conditions of crucial importance which must be met If a catastrophe is to be avoided: “(1) The prohibition of all weapons of mass destruction, including atomic and hydrogen bombs, with provision for international inspection and control such as would safeguard the security of all nations, together with the drastic reduction of all other armaments. “(2) The certain assurance that no country will engage in or support aggressive or subversive acts in other countries.” Legion of Frontiersmen.— To increase its strength, and to help to combat “the rise of communism in New Zealand.” the New Zealand branch of the Legion of Frontiersmen is to lower its joining age from 25 to 21 years. This was decided at the annual conference at Rotorua on Saturday. The conference was attended by more than 200 delegates.—(P.A.).
